The Nevada Wolf Pack represents the University of Nevada on the gridiron. The Wolf Pack football program was founded in 1896, making it one of the oldest college football programs west of the Mississippi River. The Wolf Pack have competed in the Mountain West Conference since 1992, and have won two conference championships (2010 and 2018).
The Wolf Pack's most successful era came under the leadership of head coach Chris Ault, who led the team from 1976 to 2012. Ault is the winningest coach in Nevada history, with 233 wins. He is also credited with popularizing the pistol offense, which the Wolf Pack ran to great success under his watch.
Some of the most notable Wolf Pack players from the Ault era include Colin Kaepernick, Doug Martin, and Isaiah Frey. Kaepernick went on to have a successful career in the NFL, starting in Super Bowl XLVII with the San Francisco 49ers. Martin was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft and rushed for over 1,400 yards in his rookie season. Frey was a two-time All-American at Nevada and was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
